Why You Need An Exercise Program
While a lot of emphasis is put on diets for weight loss it is equally important to look at an exercise program to compliment your weight loss methods. Let’s take a look at why you need an exercise program.
In today’s culture the lifespan of men and women is around 80 years. Unfortunately, a large number of people look and feel 80 before they even reach the halfway point! Their sagging, dry skin, aching joints and poor posture are dead giveaways to their poor health. And what we can’t see is even worse: clogged vessels, fat packed around the organs, diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease.
If our government is really serious about health care reform they should consider mandating exercise for babies as soon as they leave the cradle instead of waiting to pay the overwhelming costs associated with fighting obesity.
The benefits of a steady exercise program (besides weight loss) are many: you will wake up in the morning feeling better, your posture will improve, your energy levels will soar, you’ll have a more optimistic attitude on life and you will sleep more soundly at night.
Get The Most Effective Exercise Program And Nutrition Program Combined
More importantly you can prevent heart disease, osteoporosis and diabetes!
To many of us starting an exercise program conjures up thoughts of long hours and expensive gym memberships. We just don’t have enought time! But it doesn’t have to be that way. You can start out with a simple routine that fits into your schedule and build on that.
You could start out with a 30 minute workout four times a week made up of 20 minutes of cardio (walking) and 10 minutes of strength training (simple hand weights you can use at home.) Over time you can add to this plan. If you find you can’t fit in more than 30 minutes a day then step it up in intensity. Walk a little faster, up your speed level on the treadmill. If you started out with 5 pound weights move up to 7.5 pound weights.
It’s best to be realistic. If you push yourself to hard to fast you’ll only become discouraged and give up altogether.
There are a lot of ways you can find to incorporate exercise into your daily routine. In my neighborhood I see a group of women from a nearby office walking everyday (weather permitting) during their lunch hour.
When I finally decided to get off my butt I began walking on my treadmill for 10 minutes, 3 times a day. I am notorious for failing to stick with an exercise program but I found this plan worked great for me. I never gave myself the excuse that I didn’t have the time — we’re only talking 10 minutes! Before I knew it I had stuck with this plan for over 30 days, walking 7 days a week! And I dropped 10 pounds!
After realizing how easy it was I started increasing my times and my intensity and I’m still sticking to my regimen to this day! I’ve been able to drop a few more pounds, keep the weight off and I feel better in general.
There are a lot of ways to incorporate more movement into your daily routine. Your rewards will be looking better, feeling better and having a higher quality of life. Just remember to start out slow, find things you like to do and if you find yourself getting bored, try something different. In order to be successful your exercise program should suit your lifestyle. Just get moving!
